"So put on God's armor now! Then when the evil day comes, you will be able to resist the enemy's attacks; and after fighting to the end, you will still hold your ground." ~Ephesians 6:13 GNT
He did it again! The enemy began shouting in my ear as I was reading a thread on Facebook last night. Comment after comment made by ladies whom I felt were far more experienced than I am in this world of writing. In seeing them all endorse a resource that I had so naively assumed was for pure beginners or those with a weakness in that particular area of writing, my heart began to sink. Here was me, thinking I was more advanced than that. And then, boom!
As I stewed over this all night, even dreaming about it, I could hear nothing but the negative thoughts; you're an imposter, you're not good enough, you can't do this, who do you think you are? I felt so dejected when I awoke this morning and a little sick to my stomach. After all, who could I turn to to talk about this? I didn't want to sound like a complainer. Nor did I want to appear like I was just in search of praise or forced compliments. I could think of no one who would understand.
But then I did!
I laid it all out to God in my quiet time this morning. I told Him how hollow and humiliated I was feeling. I shed some tears of discouragement. And then I listened.
What I heard, I knew, was His voice. His reminder of the favourable responses I've received commending me on the meaningful content and messages in my writing. His nudge on my heart telling me I'm writing for His glory alone. His acknowledgement that my voice for Him is louder than any voice against me.
Has there been a time in your life when you've allowed the enemy's voice to shout in your ear? Have you worried and fretted and stewed over it?
There most surely will be times when we feel inadequate in the role we've accepted in God's army. Whether it is inner conflict or outside criticism or persecution, we'll always have that battle to fight. The Apostle Paul laid out for us the way to fight the enemy when he said, "So stand ready, with truth as a belt tight around your waist, with righteousness as your breastplate, and as your shoes the readiness to announce the Good News of peace. At all times carry faith as a shield; for with it you will be able to put out all the burning arrows shot by the Evil One. And accept salvation as a helmet, and the word of God as the sword which the Spirit gives you. Do all this in prayer, asking for God's help. Pray on every occasion, as the Spirit leads." Ephesians 6:14-18a GNT
As the saying goes, "Pick your battles." This is one we owe to ourselves and to the Father to fight with relentless fervor.

PAWS TO PRAY
Father God,
On days that we hear the enemy's voice berate and belittle us, we pray for Your voice to drown him out! Remind us Lord, that it's only Your voice we should be listening for. Help us to clothe ourselves in Your armour, that we may protect ourselves from the lies the enemy tells.
In Jesus' Holy Name we pray,
Amen
