Silent Cries

“When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
~ Psalm 34:17-18 NIV ~

I'M SORRY I didn't reply to you. Your texts, emails, and voice messages went unanswered. I apologize for cancelling our lunch date or rescheduling our zoom call. It's not you.
But it doesn't end there. Indeed, my own internal dialogue has atrophied from accusatory negativity to morbid silence. The enemy is stalking me but I feel too weak to fight back. I'm empty.
"Can't anyone hear me through my silence?", I want to scream. Instead, I hear a mocking voice reprimanding me for my arrogance and presumptuousness. 𝑊ℎ𝑜 𝑑𝑜 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑎𝑟𝑒?
Such are the times some of us will endure, often without warning. A melancholy so deep and hidden that no one sees it - unless they are looking. Are we all looking? Are we all listening?
The Apostle Paul warned us not to live according to the flesh (Romans 8) but to let our minds be governed by the Spirit. Our minds governed by the flesh will be weak against the enemy. For that reason we must feed our souls full of God's Word every day. Then, when we're at our lowest, we're the most perfect vessels to be filled with His grace.
"And he said unto me, ‘My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." ~ 2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV ~

God watches over us, just as a parent running alongside their child's first bike ride without the training wheels. He expects us to stumble, how can we not? But, He will always be there to catch us. We just need to keep our eyes trained squarely on Him. He hears us when others don't.
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” ~1 Peter 5:7 NIV ~

Let's always be listening for the silent screams around us; our family and friends who've become quiet and distant. They need us as much as we need them. Our voice of reassurance can drown out the enemy and point them to the one giver of grace, the powerful redeemer, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

PAWS TO PRAY
Father God,
You always hear our cries, silent or loud, and we thank You for that. But Lord, please help us to look closely and listen carefully, even through our own pain, to be able to hear the cries of those around us, to see the needs of others in distress. Help us Father, to keep a keen ear and a close watch for others who suffer in silence, that we may support and comfort them as You comfort us. Guide us, through Your Spirit, to always cast our gaze outward and upward, that we may aide and comfort others as You aid and comfort us.
In Jesus' most Holy name we pray,
Amen
